The Department of Computer and Information Sciences is a small but growing academic unit in the university. Currently, we have eight full-time faculty members with strengths in various areas to serve a student body consisting of about 80 majors and minors. We offer two undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor's degree in either Computer Science or Information Technology, as well as a graduate Master's degree in Computer Science.
The general objectives of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences are to provide students with high quality instruction and research training within the rapidly evolving fields of Computer Science and Information Technology; provide opportunities for students to develop functional competence in Computer Science and Information Technology; provide students with an appreciation for the contributions of Computer Science and Information Technology to Science, Business, Economics, and the Social Sciences; cultivate student's abilities to formulate and solve problems, and manage complexity. The Department strives to promote an environment that encourages innovation, creativity, and leadership among faculty and students. The Department prepares students to pursue doctoral studies or careers in goverment and industry.
The Department aims to provide students with courses of studies directed toward an understanding of computational theory and its relation to other fields of study. This study includes an emphasis on precision of definition, reasoning to precise conclusions and an analysis and solution of problems.
